The TopDutch Weekend Guide 27-29th of September

Happy weekend! This week, as September is closing, we’re in the mood for experiencing some culture. Whether that be art, music, or traditional Dutch drinking culture… we’ve something for everyone. Have fun!

For the beer connoisseurs

Beer festivals

Beer lovers across the TopDutch region, unite! This weekend we’ve got not just one, but two beer festivals. In Leeuwarden experience the best and newest special beers with a backdrop of 70s and 80s bangers in the Neushoorn. And in Groningen the Baxbier brewery is opening its doors to another 14 (inter)national breweries for the International Craft Beer Festival.

Where? Neushorn(Leeuwarden)/Baxbier(Groningen). When? 28th of September (Neushorn)/ 27-29th of September (Baxbier).

For the chasers of la bella vita

Italian Festival

The Drents museum is currently home to a fascinating exhibition of Italian painters called ‘Sprezzatura’ which brings together prestigious pieces of unusual Italian art from the 50 years between 1860 and 1910. To celebrate it, the city of Assen is celebrating Italian culture with the Italiaans festival. The highlight will be a big fashion show in the city center on Saturday, whilst on Sunday there is a wide array of side events throughout the streets with food, festivities and fun for all the family.

Where? Assen. When? 28th-29th of September.

For the creatives

Leeuwarden Street Art Tour

Want to explore Leeuwarden through a different lens? The Leeuwarden Street Art Tour will be held for the first time in English this weekend, giving internationals the chance to check Frisian street-culture. Both legal and illegal art will make you take a second-look at the streets of Leeuwarden. And the walk is some good exercise too, of course!

Where? Starting at Oldehoofsterkerkhof. When? 29th of September (13:00).

For the music lovers

Delfzijl Music Festival

Bringing together hundreds of musicians from the TopDutch region this weekend is the Delfzijl Music Festival. Hear all sorts of genres being performed by wind and percussion ensembles, or brush up on your Gronings with some Groningen-dialect songs.

Where? Around Delfzijl. When? 28th and 29th of September.

For the thrill-seekers

Motocross of Nations

The ‘Olympics of motocross’: The Motocross of Nations is taking place in Assen this weekend. Head down to the TT circuit for the biggest motocross event of the year. And you’ll be in good company: King Willem-Alexander himself will be there too cheering on Team NL.
