The TopDutch Weekend Guide 20th-22nd of December

‘Twas the weekend before Christmas, when all through the house; not a creature was stirring, not even a mouse. And that’s because everyone was out, enjoying the cultural festivities going on in the TopDutch region! From carols to jingles, from vegan food to stamppot, whatever way you want to celebrate the holiday season, there’s something for you this weekend.

The city center of Groningen is transforming into a big ‘sing-along café’ this Friday thanks to cultural organization VRIJDAG. A band and choir will lead Christmas numbers, whilst the lyrics will be projected onto a screen so everyone can join in the festivities. Jingle bell ROCK!

For a traditional Christmas

Festival of Lessons and Carols

The magic of Christmas has been around us for a while, but for those looking for a more traditional event to celebrate the season, look no further than the Festival Lessons and Carols in Assen this weekend. An event more common in Anglican tradition, the ‘lessons’ are short readings of the Bible telling the story of the arrival of Christ, and are accompanied with carols sang by a choir (and yourself). And all in the stunning environment of the Adventskerk in Assen.
