It’s an amazing weekend for the arts in the TopDutch region. From classical music to electronic, from light art to films, there’s so much culture to explore across the whole region. Or are stunning motors or history more your type of culture? Then there’s something for you too. Get out, go enjoy the best culture of the region!

For the arty-types

Clash x Jonge Harten

Art, fashion, dance and DJs, all in one night, in one venue. Clash is an arts foundation based in Groningen that brings together the visual and performance arts and electronic music. For the closing party of the theater festival Jonge Harten, they are hosting an indoor festival featuring voguing workshops, some of the best TopDutch DJs and fashion performances.

For the historians

Wij Vikingen

The Vikings were Scandinavian right? Well, yes. But did you know that there were Frisian men, women and even children joined the plundering raids of the Vikings. Wij Vikingen (We Vikings) explores the Viking culture that existed in the TopDutch region in the 9th and 10th century. For the kids there’s an extra exhibition where they can go on a Viking mission to rescue their kidnapped brother. Fun for all the family!

For a winter walk

Noorderlicht Emmen

In the beautiful Rensen Park in Emmen for the next month you can experience the Noorderlicht (Northern Lights) Emmen. A walking art route of over 50 pieces, where art and culture meet stunning lights. The festival kicks off on Friday with an evening of discussion and great music from the up-beat singer Benjamin Fro. We reckon it’s a wonderful way to start slowly getting yourself into the Christmas spirit, and enjoy these colder, darker nights.

Academy of Ancient Music & Viktoria Mullova

The Academy of Ancient Music is one of the most respected classical and baroque orchestras. This weekend, they’re coming to Groningen with the wildly solo violinist talented Viktoria Mullova for an evening of Bach and Haydn.

Media Art Festival

This Friday kicks off two weeks of wonderful work from young, talented artists from the TopDutch region and afar: The Media Art Festival 2019. This year the theme is ‘ILLUSIONS’, whether the artists choose to take a light, sound or film form. Alongside the exhibition from the young artists, there will also be workshops, performances and discussions. You can check out their whole agenda here.

Eelde Classics

Want a trip back to the in time to the roads of yesteryear? This weekend is Eelde Classics, where lovers of old-timers cars, motorbikes, tractors and all sorts of other beautiful engines can come together to explore some of the best classic cars. And if your wallet or your garage isn’t big enough for a real old-timer, you can always buy one of the impressive models on display.
