The TopDutch Weekend Guide 29th of November - 1st of December

Uh oh! Where has the sun gone? Want to hide away from the drizzle but still get out and enjoy yourself, meet new people or get out with the family? We’ve picked our favorite indoor activities this weekend, so there’s no excuse for you not to have an exciting weekend and discover something new!

For the community

Forum opening

The Forum Groningen has had an update. The main library has got a huge new location on the Nieuwe Markt: much more than just a library there will be lots of exhibitions, room for events, a museum and a roof cinema, to name but a few. To celebrate the opening, they’ll be hosting a 24 hour program with loads of movies, discussions, workshops and a big party. Truly something for everyone.
Where? Groningen Forum, Nieuwe Markt. When? Starts 5pm on 29thof November.

For the fashionistas

Vintage Fashion Show

As part of the Rock and Blue’s festival in Leeuwarden, the vintage store Designed for Maria is putting on a fun fashion show bringing on a trip through time starting in the swinging 20s and all the way up to new-waves and punks from the 80s. Alongside, there’ll also be rock and roll dancers to up the vibe!
Where? Zalen Schaaf, Leeuwarden. When? 30th of November.

For the families

WILDLANDS backstage

Have you got some aspiring vets in your clan? Let them have a sneak peek behind the scenes of the WILDLANDS Adventure Zoo this winter, and see bits of the zoo you’d normally never see as a visitor. Visit the stables, have a look at where the vets perform operations on the animals residents and see where the elephants get their daily grooming. As some of the animals are in their winter stables, there’s a whole new route where you can check what they’re up to in the winter.
Where? WILDLANDS Adventure Zoo, Emmen. When? Until March 2020.

For the international TopDutch’ers

Sinterklaas at City Central

It’s Sinterklaas season in the Netherlands. But sometimes for international TopDutch’ers who haven’t grown up with the tradition, it’s an important part of Dutch culture that we can miss out on. So City Central, the hub for international Groningen, is transforming their shop front into a typical Dutch “gezellig” living room for an evening of board games, pepernoten and Glühwein where Dutch and international TopDutch’ers can enjoy Sinterklaas together.
Where? Akerkhof 2. When? 29th of November.

For the green thumbs

Flower Power Market Sneek

In the art center Atrium in Sneek this weekend, live your most sustainable life with the Flower Power market. With 40 (indoor!) stalls of handmade or vintage clothes and jewelry, yummy organic and fair trade food, and cute homeware alongside a fun program of sustainable lectures and workshops. Perfect for those who want to some conscious Christmas shopping!
Where Kunstencentrum Atrium, Sneek. When? 1st of December.

For some serious-fun

The Artist

Love theater but also want something a bit light-hearted in your performance? This weekend the critically acclaimed circus performance ‘The Artist’ by Circo Aereo and Thomas Monckton is coming to Meppel. The show displays an artist – performed by Thomas Monckton – coming to his studio to wait for inspiration to strike. Unfortunately when it does it’s obvious he can’t escape the chaos in his life, not quite how he’d like it to be for a distinguished artist such as him. Expect bright colors, big movements and a few jaw-drops.
Where? Shouwberg Ogterop, Meppel. When? 30th of November.
