Explore the North Greenhouse Opening
In preparation for the Explore the North festival that starts in two weeks’ time, this Friday is the official opening of the City Greenhouse. Over the next few weeks it will act as a meeting ground for the creatives of Leeuwarden, where friends can meet, listen to great local and international music and enjoy delicious food. We’ve all heard of Einstein’s theory of relativity. It is the base of whole fields of astrophysics, but how accurate is it? In Groningen this weekend is an exclusive viewing of the thrilling documentary ‘Chasing Einstein’, which follows leading scientists on the bring of ground-breaking discoveries. Following the film will be a discussion with CERN physicist James Beacham and observational cosmologist Margot Brouwer, all in the stunning location of the DOT cinema. You don’t need a PhD in physics to find this exciting!

Northern film festival
This year marks the 40th anniversary of the Northern Film Festival, which will take place in Leeuwarden this weekend. Over 5 days, over 150 films will be shown to 20-25,000 visitors. The films have a special focus on the Northern European countries, which makes it a super unique event. From comedies, to documentaries, to incredible European scenery, there’s something to wow everyone.

Edible plants walk
The iconic beauty of the Asserbos (Forest of Assen) is undoubted. But did you know that within its 10 acres of nature there’s all sorts of tasty treats growing? Take a calm walk through the Asserbos with a guide, and learn about the types of plants growing, which ones you can eat and what you can make with them. And then enjoy the fruits of your labor with a tasty afternoon snack.

The tale of Sleeping Beauty is one that we’ve almost all grown up with. This weekend your little one can enjoy it too, with the Sleeping Beauty (Doornrosje) musical. Get transported to a land far, far away, and dance along to the catchy musical numbers. To make it even more special, those dressed up may win a fairytale prize package.
