1. Explore the Wadden Sea Region

The Wadden Sea is not only one of the Netherlands’s most beautiful nature reserves but also provides the TopDutch region with a designated UNESCO World Heritage Site in its backyard. To explore the Wadden islands and their pristine nature, simply jump on a ferry or give mudflat walking a go. If you prefer to stay on land, why not try one of the scenic routes to explore the region by car, bike or on foot. Not a fan of the outdoors? 2. Meet seals at the Pieterburen Zeehondencentrum

Do you want to learn more about a very special inhabitant of the Wadden Sea? If you want to experience an extra special moment, you can even sign up to join the release of recovered seals “back home” to the Wadden Sea. 3. Road trip along Drenthe’s Hunebedhighway

Fancy a road trip? The N34 Hunebedhighway takes you through Drenthe along 47 of the 52 dolmen in the province. Make sure to stop in Borger, the “Hunebed Capital” of the UNESCO Global Geopark, and visit the nearby Hunebedcentrum to learn more about Drenthe’s geological history. Of course, there’s more to see than dolmen! Why not make your road trip complete by exploring local villages and enjoying Drenthe’s beautiful nature and landscape?


4. Travel back in time at Groningen fortress

Interested in learning more about Groningen’s history? The fortress Bourtange, built in the sixteenth century, has been rebuilt to its former look and style and allows visitors to travel back in time to explore the village, old-fashioned shops and various museums. To complete your visit, you can grab a bite and a drink at one of the restaurants and bars. If you want to extend your journey back in time, how about an overnight stay in the fortress?
